Loxodonta africana. Females spend their lives in family herds led by an experienced matriarch, while adult males mostly live alone after leaving the herd at around eight years old. Frontier's entry notes a 22-month pregnancy, shared calf care, apparent grief and long memory, and an important role in spreading seeds.
