How to build an aquarium in Planet Zoo 2

Pre-release guide · updated September 26, 2026

Based on Frontier's official aquarium feature. Tested build steps, costs and capacities will be added after the October 13 release. The troubleshooting table suggests what to check; it is not a list of tested fixes.

Build the tank, connect its water supply and staff access, then check the conditions your animals need.

Step by step

  1. Build the tank. Place aquarium barriers. You can adjust their size, orientation and height.
  2. Add a staff gate and connect it to your path network.
  3. Connect water filters and set the salinity: freshwater, saltwater or brackish. Saltwater species can't survive in freshwater.
  4. Set temperature and lighting from the aquarium's staff gate.
  5. Check water volume against each species' needs before you add the animals.

Guest viewing: tunnels and multilevel tanks

Add a guest gate to build underwater viewing tunnels. Aquariums can be multistory or underground, and viewing tunnels can run at different heights.

Maintenance

  • The water-filter network keeps the water clean.
  • Staff suit up and dive in to clean the glass from time to time.
  • Some barrier types resist cracks better than others. Cracks can lead to leaks and require maintenance.
