Epinephelus lanceolatus is also called the Queensland or brindle grouper. It is a large marine reef fish from the Indo-Pacific, with a broad mouth and mottled adult colouring. Juveniles look different, with brighter markings.

Compare its robust silhouette with the smaller-looking schooling fusilier when sketching a reef display. Giant grouper and giant gourami are not interchangeable names: the latter is associated with freshwater habitats. This comparison identifies the animals, not a shared enclosure recommendation.

Its natural-history description as a solitary predator does not provide a game stocking limit. Verify tank dimensions, group rules and every proposed companion independently after launch.
